Chironomidae Morphological Types and Functional Feeding Groups as a Habitat Complexity Vestige

چکیده

Chironomid (Diptera: Chironomidae) larvae play an important role in a wide range of aquatic ecosystems. The study focuses on Chironomidae trophic guilds and morphological types as indicator traits reconstructions habitat changes shallow water bodies. Mentum ventromental plates are mouthparts whose shape depends food type feeding behavior. strongly vary the mode life habits, representing almost every group. Here we classified mentum into 16 groups tested if they indicated similar past functional (FFGs), tribes/subfamilies. Paleoecological data biotic abiotic proxies were derived from short sequences Late Glacial oxbow nearby medieval moat located Central Poland. revealed that substratum structure, vegetation physicochemical conditions associated both with traits. This provides valuable tool for future changes.

Functional diversification of centrins and cell morphological complexity.

In addition to their key role in the duplication of microtubule organising centres (MTOCs), centrins are major constituents of diverse MTOC-associated contractile arrays. A centrin partner, Sfi1p, has been characterised in yeast as a large protein carrying multiple centrin-binding sites, suggesting a model for centrin-mediated Ca2+-induced contractility and for the duplication of MTOCs. In vivo...

Morphological asymmetry and habitat quality: using fleas and their rodent hosts as a novel experimental system.

Morphological asymmetry is widely used to measure developmental instability and higher levels of asymmetry often correlate with decreased mating success, increased inbreeding, increased stress and decreased habitat quality. We studied asymmetry and relationships between asymmetry and host identity in two flea species, host generalist Xenopsylla ramesis and host specialist Parapulex chephrenis, ...
